WHS Friday Message

From Principal Allyson Mizoguchi

October 23, 2026
An important aspect of our school community is the WHS Peer Mediation program, which helps peers resolve their conflicts in a constructive, supportive, and confidential way. Through our partnership with MetroWest Mediation Services, we are fortunate to have 25 trained mediators ready to support their peers in navigating and addressing conflicts big and small. I am excited to share that NBC10 Boston recently visited WHS to speak with students and learn about the program, and will air their story on Monday, October 26. Thank you to parent Michael Henrich, who saw the great story in our program; all of our peer mediators; and to WHS Peer Mediation advisors Sean Gass and Latoya Downes for their ongoing advocacy and work with this meaningful program.

Rotary Youth Leadership Award: Invitation for Sophomore Nominations

The Rotary Club of Wayland and Weston is seeking nominations of current 10th graders living or studying in Wayland who embody “service above self, focusing on leadership and community service.” Anyone (staff, parent, student, community member) can nominate a deserving 10th grader by completing this five-minute form. Here are links to Rotary’s webpage about the RYLA program where you can read about the 10 impressive sophomores we recognized last November. Having attended many of these celebrations over the years, I can attest to the inspiring service and leadership of these students.  The first round of nominations closes on November 1.

Other Good News!

  • Congratulations to the 9th graders elected last week to the Class of 2030 Executive Board (officers and representatives) and Student Council (representatives)! Their leadership journey is underway with the support of their class advisor, Ed DeHoratius.

  • Bravo to our WHS orchestras and to Fine Arts Director Susan Memoli for the “spooktacular” Masquerade Concert last night! We were delighted to welcome the WMS orchestra as well for this combined concert featuring a program of seasonal, spirited pieces. Our costumed musicians blew the audience away!

  • There’s lots to celebrate in the world of WHS athletics! Please see this summary of our sports teams thus far, compiled and written by Athletics Assistant Erin Ryan.

  • Don’t forget about the Connect Program Haunted House and Fall Fair this Sunday, October 25, from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. in the Field House – this community event is a great tradition for all!

Enjoy the lovely fall weekend!
