Tonight is Homecoming! This now-annual Student Council event has become a spirited way to launch the school year. Hundreds of students will soon eat and dance in the Field House after the home football game. (Students who haven’t yet bought tickets can do so at the door for $30.) Club Fair, another tradition of the new year, was held yesterday and featured over 50 student clubs and activities. A list of our robust club offerings may be found
on our website. I encourage all students to get involved!
CHAT Hour Recap
Thanks to the parents and caregivers who were able to join us either in person or virtually at our first PTO-sponsored “CHAT Hour” this morning. Our discussion centered on the programs, supports, and co-curricular opportunities available to students. If you missed the meeting (apologies for the mishap with the zoom password!), a recording of our conversation is linked
here. We will announce our next CHAT Hour soon!
Generative AI and Students
As noted in my late summer
letter, we are embarking on an educational campaign called “Don’t Be a Bot” to help our students understand AI and its impact on their lives and learning. Last Friday in Advisory, students heard and briefly discussed our first kickoff message (“The Why”). We will offer these opportunities for discussion and learning every two weeks in Advisory. We plan to hold whole-school programming later in the year and will keep you posted.
Calling All Innovators!
The Wayland Exploration Lab for Design (WELD) in the South building is our “Makerspace” made up of an Innovation Lounge and Workspace, a hands-on shop, and a podcast studio. WELD is a resource for all students and staff for digital design, 3D printing, crafting, building, and imagining. Supported by Mr. Nic Patrie, WELD is open all day for explorers and tinkerers (and is also where our Intro to Innovation course meets). Please contact Mr. Patrie at
weld@waylandps.org if you’d like to learn more about the space and its possibilities.
