I hope everyone enjoyed a pleasant February school vacation, along with two additional days off thanks to Mother Nature! After the extended time away, it has been wonderful to see everyone and ease back into our routines.
“This Is Our House” Assembly! – March 5
Next
Thursday, March 5, we will welcome
jamele adams – poet, educator, educational leader, and community organizer – to WHS. Through a mix of music, art, poetry, and the spoken word performed by our own students, jamele (who spells his name with lower-case letters) will help us strengthen and unite as a community. We will run a special bell schedule to hold two back-to-back assemblies with jamele so that all students and staff can engage in his message of “LIT,” or “Love, Inclusion, and Trust.” He calls this assembly “This Is Our House.”
Course Recommendations for 26-27
As mentioned in earlier messaging, teachers are making next year’s course recommendations for their current students until next Friday, March 6. We encourage students to connect with their teachers and counselor if they have any questions about their options for next year. Yesterday, we held an Extended Advisory to share with students
this slide deck which describes the scheduling process. I will email additional messaging to families about this process next week.
Ninth Grade Conferences
The second round of 9th grade conferences will be held in March. These conferences will once again be hosted by your child’s Advisory teachers, and will be offered as either in-person or virtual. This time is designed to be a check-in on your child’s high school experience thus far, and can include an opportunity to discuss course selection. By next Monday, 9th grade caregivers will receive an email from their child’s Advisory teachers with sign up information.
Congratulations and Gratitude
- Over February break, the Wayland Chapter of the Cancer Kids First Club visited the Jimmy Fund in Boston. Staff advisor Jason Tassinari and his daughter Olivia (a cancer survivor and former patient of the Jimmy Fund and Children’s Hospital), along with group leader James Morris and members Andrew Bayazitov, Jackson Nowland, and Nathaniel Nigus, toured the clinic and raised the spirits of patients and their families. The Cancer Kids First Club and the Girls Tennis Team will visit the Jimmy Fund again in the spring, and will volunteer at their Annual Summer Festival in September.
- I am delighted that the WHS yearbook, the Reflector, is included in a national showcase recognizing the most outstanding yearbooks produced by Varsity Yearbooks. The Reflector was selected from over 1,000 yearbooks and recognized in the top 10% of all applicants. Congratulations to the entire Reflector staff and its advisors, Ms. Jennifer McGillis and Ms. Amy O’Connell!
- We are immensely proud of all of our winter teams and athletes! A full wrap-up with highlights of the season will appear in next week’s Friday Message.
Enjoy the weekend!
